Chintamani: In a heartbreaking turn of events, the parents of a first-grade student who lost vision in one eye staged a protest in front of the Block Education Officer’s (BEO) office in Chintamani town on Friday, April 4, demanding justice.
The incident occurred at the Government Model Higher Primary School in Yagavakote village, under Murugamalla hobli of Chintamani taluk. Eight-year-old Yashwanth, son of Nataraj and Anjali, was a Class 1 student at the school.
According to the parents, a teacher named Saraswati, while attempting to discipline another student, swung a stick which accidentally struck Yashwanth in the eye. The injury caused severe damage to his right eye.
The child was rushed to a specialist eye hospital for treatment, but doctors later confirmed that he had permanently lost vision in the injured eye. Following the diagnosis, the parents filed complaints against the teacher at the local police station and with the Block Education Office.
With no action reportedly taken, the distressed parents began a sit-in protest in front of the BEO office, holding placards and demanding accountability. “We will continue our legal battle until the teacher is held responsible,” they said.
