On November 6, 2024, Owens went live on YouTube and said being fired gave her more publicity than she ever imagined. She said, “I thank Ben Shapiro, I thank Jeremy Boreing, I thank the direction of travel and them realizing before I did that I should be fired.”

The conflict started after her public comments about Israel following the October 2023 Hamas attack. The situation between Candace Owens and The Daily Wire grew worse in early 2024. After Owens’ strong criticism of Israel, Ben Shapiro publicly called her comments “absolutely disgraceful.” Soon after, The Daily Wire confirmed that their partnership had ended.
CEO Jeremy Boreing released a short statement confirming the separation, which Owens later reposted on her own social media.
About two months after the split, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald reported that The Daily Wire had obtained a gag order against Owens to stop her from speaking negatively about the company.
Greenwald mentioned this in his Locals newsletter. However, Jeremy Boreing denied it, telling The Independent that the report was “inaccurate to the point of being false.” Boreing said the company wanted to “resolve issues privately” with Owens.
Candace Owens herself told the journalist she “could not comment” on the issue, which many took as a sign that some legal restriction might exist. According to The Independent, the possible gag order was linked to private negotiations between Owens and The Daily Wire about a public debate that never happened.
Before the firing, Owens had asked Ben Shapiro’s team on X to pick a date for the debate. It never took place.
