A British influencer has died after falling from one of Spain ’s highest bridges while attempting to create content for social media , local authorities have confirmed, as per BBC .
The incident occurred early on Sunday morning as the 26-year-old man, whose identity has not been revealed, was scaling the 192-metre (630ft) tall Castilla-La Mancha Bridge in Talavera de la Reina , about 120km southwest of Madrid. He was accompanied by a 24-year-old man at the time of the fall, who remains unnamed.a
Emergency services were called to the scene around 7.15 am but were unable to save him. The man’s body has was taken to a local funeral home.
City councillor Macarena Muñoz, who is responsible for citizen security, said, “They had come to Talavera to climb the bridge and create content for social networks, which has resulted in this unfortunate and sad outcome.”
Muñoz said that climbing the bridge is "totally prohibited" and had been warned against on numerous occasions. "This cannot be done under any circumstances," she added.
In response to the incident, local authorities suggested measures to make the bridge less accessible and installing CCTV to enhance security, according to reports from Spanish media.
The Castilla-La Mancha Bridge, which spans the River Tagus , was opened in 2011 and remains one of Spain’s tallest cable-stayed structures. Despite strict bans, it has been a popular site for social media climbers.
“We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Spain, and are in contact with the local authorities", said a spokesperson for the Foreign Office .
