WB job scam: Cancer survivor is sole teacher to keep job

Soma Das should have felt relieved. Instead, she is distraught. Standing alone as the sole teacher whose job was saved on humanitarian grounds, she finds no solace.

"How can I be happy while I was one of those battling against the scam?" said Das, a cancer survivor who teaches at Modhura High School in Birbhum. "I never wanted others to lose jobs. Their battle was mine too." She had cleared the 2016 job exam, but her appointment came only after a Calcutta HC order in 2022, which SC upheld due to her medical condition. Das said she relies on her salary to fund her treatment. "This job is the only option for me."
