NEW DELHI: Congress on Thursday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for delivering “hollow filmi dialogues” during his rally in Rajasthan’s Bikaner, and accused him of evading serious national security questions amid escalating tensions with Pakistan.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh hit out at the Prime Minister shortly after his public address in Rajasthan. “Instead of throwing out grand sounding but 'hollow filmi dialogues' in public rallies as he has done in Bikaner today, the Prime Minister should answer serious questions that are being asked of him,” Ramesh said wrote in a post on X.
He questioned Modi’s silence on critical matters arising from the recent terror attack in Pahalgam , reportedly carried out by perpetrators involved in earlier attacks across Jammu and Kashmir. “Why are the brutal killers of Pahalgam still free – according to some reports they had been responsible for three earlier terror attacks in Poonch, Gagangir, and Gulmarg over the past 18 months?” Ramesh asked.
He also criticised the Prime Minister for failing to bring political consensus on national security. “Why have you not chaired any all-party meeting and taken the opposition parties into confidence?” he said, pointing out the lack of parliamentary engagement on the issue. “Why have you not called a special session of Parliament to reiterate the unanimously passed resolution of Feb 22, 1994 and update it given the deep China-Pakistan nexus evident during Operation Sindoor?”
Ramesh further demanded clarity on foreign involvement in the counter-terror operation, referencing comments by American leaders. “Why have you stubbornly remained silent on the repeated claims being made by President Trump and US Secretary of State Rubio on the US role over the past two weeks especially?”
Earlier that day, PM Modi visited Karni Mata temple and addressed a public rally after inaugurating a redeveloped railway station and other infrastructure projects worth over Rs 26,000 crore. During his speech in Palana, Modi delivered an aggressive message on terrorism, declaring that India’s response to future terror attacks would be swift and decided solely by the armed forces.
“The enemies of India, both within and outside, have now seen what happens when sindoor turns into gunpowder,” PM Modi said. He also reiterated his 2019 vow: “Saugandh mujhe iss Desh ki mitti ki, mein desh nahi mitne dunga, mein desh nahi jhukne dunga.”

He demanded clarification from the government, stating that if this was true, the terrorists' continued freedom would be even more concerning. Ramesh also criticised Prime Minister Modi’s refusal to call a session of Parliament while sending delegations of 50 MPs abroad, calling them "meaningless optical exercises."
Ramesh mocked Modi, stating that India and Pakistan both possess weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), but India also has a "weapon of mass distraction" through these delegations. He further claimed Modi had unleashed "weapons of mass defamation" and "weapons of mass diversion" from the BJP headquarters.
With US President Trump claiming that he settled the India-Pakistan conflict through trade, Ramesh questioned why Modi had remained silent. "The prime minister is quiet on this (Trump's claims)," he said, pointing to Modi’s silence despite earlier high-profile events like "Howdy Modi" and "Namaste Trump." Ramesh also criticised External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for not addressing Trump’s remarks.
