'Has he developed diabetes?': Misa Bharti on PM Modi's unfulfilled promise to revive Bihar's sugar industry

RJD MP Misa Bharti made a pointed remark on Saturday about PM Modi ’s unfulfilled promise to revive Bihar ’s sugar industry , suggesting that he may have abandoned the commitment due to "diabetes."

Bharti, daughter of RJD leader Lalu Prasad, highlighted the ongoing decline of the state’s sugar mills, which have been inactive for years.

“The PM is enjoying his third consecutive term in office and has not fulfilled any of the promises he made before coming to power,” Bharti alleged. She recalled Modi's assurances to the people of Bihar, saying, “As someone from Bihar, I remember the flourish with which he promised the state’s people that Bihar’s sugar mills would be revived and that he would himself savor tea sweetened with local sugar. Why did he not fulfill his own promise? Has he developed diabetes?”

As a member of the INDIA bloc , Bharti expressed confidence in the coalition’s success in all upcoming assembly elections and by-polls. However, she also condemned derogatory comments made by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant against a candidate from the Eknath Shinde-led faction. “Political differences aside, no offensive remarks should be made about a woman, even if she happens to be a rival,” Bharti said when asked about Sawant's comments regarding Shaina NC, a former BJP member.

In response to journalists' questions, Bharti dismissed the Modi government's "One Nation, One Poll" initiative as a “shigoofa” (gimmick), arguing that they cannot even manage simultaneous elections in four states, let alone across the entire country. This comment referred to the upcoming assembly polls in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, set to take place about a month after elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

The RJD leader also criticized inflammatory remarks made by Union Minister Giriraj Singh during the recent Hindu Swabhiman Yatra. “It is appalling that a Union minister can urge people to ‘rain a hundred blows’ on someone and get away with it,” she said.

Additionally, Bharti questioned the BJP's silence regarding the formation of a new political outfit by former Union Minister RCP Singh, who joined the party after leaving Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U). She also criticized Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj, for making promises that he “never asked BJP and Nitish to fulfill while he was handling their campaign.”
