NEW DELHI: An explosion near Gate 1 of Red Fort Metro station has sent shockwaves across the national capital, prompting a red alert. Taking cognisance of the incident, Delhi police commissioner Satish Golcha said that the blast occurred after a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light.
He added that due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged.
All agencies on blast site
"All agencies, FSL, NIA, are here. Some people have died, and some have been injured in the incident. The situation is being monitored. The home minister has also called us, and information is being shared with him from time to time," Golcha said.
According to a news report from ANI, eight people were killed in the incident, and 24 others were injured, three of them seriously. Injured people were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital.
Delhi Police officials said that the investigation is under way. "As of now, I can't tell you anything. Investigation is being done."
DIG CRPF said it is too early to say anything. "I am just going to the site...," he said.
High alert in Delhi , UP & Maharashtra
Meanwhile, a high alert was sounded in Delhi after the explosion. Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are also put on alert in the wake of a blast.
Home minister Amit Shah spoke with the Delhi police commissioner after the incident, and he is in continuous touch with the IB director.
PM Modi also took stock of the situation and was briefed by Shah.
