NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja on Wednesday expressed confidence in her party's prospects in the upcoming by-polls and Maharashtra Assembly elections. She emphasized that the Congress, along with its alliance partners, is poised to secure a win in Maharashtra and perform strongly in the by-elections.
"We are confident that our alliance in Maharashtra will form the government, and Congress will contest the by-polls to win. It is a matter of great happiness that Priyanka ji is contesting from Wayanad ," Selja stated.
Addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party's ( BJP ) victory in the Haryana Assembly elections, Selja urged the ruling party to begin working on fulfilling their promises. "We would want them to start their work soon to complete all that was not done in the last ten years. By whatever means, they secured a mandate, now, we just want them to take the people of Haryana forward," she said.
The Election Commission announced by-polls to 48 assembly constituencies and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday. The polling will take place on November 13 for 47 assembly seats and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, while the Nanded constituency in Maharashtra and one Uttarakhand seat will vote on November 20.
The by-polls span 15 states, with the highest number of seats contested in Uttar Pradesh, a crucial battleground for the BJP. After losing ground in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP will look to regain momentum in the state.
Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand are scheduled for November 20, with results declared on November 23.
