In one of the previous livestreams, Márquez said that someone had come to the salon while she was away, claiming to have an "expensive gift" for her. She appeared concerned and said she did not plan to wait for the person to return.

Marquez took a bullet to her chest and head.

Márquez had nearly 2,00,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok , and was known for sharing beauty and lifestyle tips. The incident has sent shock waves across the country and is being investigated as a femicide – the Jalisco state prosecutor said in a statement.

What is femicide
Femicide is the intentional killing of women or girls specifically because of their gender. It is considered a form of gender-based violence and often reflects deep-rooted inequality, discrimination, and power imbalances in society.

Femicide can happen in various contexts, such as in domestic settings where a partner or family member is responsible, in cases where cultural practices are used to justify the act, or where violence is connected to sexual assault, dowry disputes, or attempts to control women's behavior.
