MUMBAI: New Zealand skipper Tom Latham said on Thursday that the World Test Championship has given a context to Tests because of which we are seeing more result-oriented games. While New Zealand have sealed the series 2-0, the 12 points that teams will earn if they go on to win the third Test means the interest in the Wankhede Stadium game hasn't waned.
"The context ( WTC ) has put on Test cricket rather than the bilateral series has been fantastic. We've probably seen a few more results in terms of games that have been played, certainly over the last period," said Latham as New Zealand looked to whitewash India.
When quizzed about whether they can sweep the series, the 32-year-old played down their chances.
"This is another exciting opportunity presented to us this week. We've done a lot of good stuff over the last couple of weeks, but for us every Test match you go in with the focus of trying to win key moments, not necessarily focusing on the result. That's the byproduct of putting in good sessions back-to-back. This is a different pitch, and these are different conditions," he said.
The skipper was also surprised by how sultry the weather has been over the last two days.
