Persistent rain denied any play on day one of the first Test between India and New Zealand on Wednesday at Bengaluru.
Heavy rain over the past 48 hours delayed the toss and officials made the decision to take lunch without a ball being bowled.
The entire day’s play was called off around 2:30pm IST after the covers were briefly taken off the pitch.
To make up for the overs lost on the opening day, officials announced revised timings for Day 2 with a 15-minute early start and 15 minutes being added to the first and second sessions. Additionally, 98 overs have been allocated for Day 2.
More rain is expected over the next few days, but the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has world-class drainage facilities and play could start within 45 minutes.
If all goes well, toss is scheduled to take place at 8:45am IST on Thursday with play due to begin at 9:15am. The first session is scheduled to run until 11:30am followed by the afternoon (12:10pm to 2:25pm IST) and evening sessions (2:45pm to 4:45pm IST).
India are currently top of the World Test Championship standings, and seek a 3-0 win in this series against New Zealand to all but assure themselves of a spot in the final at Lord’s next June.
Wednesday was yet another frustrating day for New Zealand on their long sub-continental tour. It began with the one-off washed out Test against Afghanistan in Greater Noida, followed by a 2-0 loss in Sri Lanka.
