Bills ' rookie RB Ray Davis had a memorable performance against the Jets, despite Ty Johnson being the starter due to James Cook 's injury. QB Josh Allen attributed Davis's performance stating that he was "tough to bring down" in the 23-20 loss. Allen discussed Davis's performance during the post-game press conference. Davis led the team in rushing and receiving with 97 yards and 55 receiving yards in a phenomenal game. He was a key player and his 152 scrimmage yards is the most by a rookie in the NFL this season.

Josh Allen praises Ray Davis for his outstanding performance
On Monday night, the Bills scored 359 yards of offense, with Ray Davis contributing significantly. Davis stepped in for injured James Cook and ran 20 times for 97 yards, catching three passes for 55 yards. This made him the first rookie to lead the Bills in rushing and receiving yards in the same game since 1986, and it marked a coming-out party for the fourth-round pick. “It was awesome to see. That’s why we drafted him,” quarterback Josh Allen said, via the team’s website. “He’s tough to bring down, and he runs the ball super hard, protects the ball. I’m very proud of him for stepping up.”

Davis, a first-year Bills player, achieved career-high numbers with 97 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards, a record only four first-year players have achieved in a single game. His low center of gravity is a significant weapon for the Bills, and the team could modify their plays to accommodate Davis's strength, allowing him more freedom to express his offensive game.

Allen, who scored two touchdowns, emphasized his focus on one play at a time during the game. This approach may be the best strategy for him as he faces bigger challenges in his Bills career. The Bills will likely plug Cook back into a significant role once he’s healthy enough to return, but Davis made his case for a part in the proceedings of a Bills offense that has been looking for new faces to grab roles this season. With Cook sidelined for another week, Davis is eager to continue his impressive showing in the upcoming game against the Titans.
