Raipur: A 45-year-old man bludgeoned his 70-year-old mother to death after she refused to give him Rs 200 to purchase a dog in Raipur on Friday. He also attacked his wife who sustained severe injuries.
The accused identified as Pradeep Dewangan, an e-rickshaw driver, committed the crime on Friday at Nageshwar Nagar in Urla around 8 am, said police.
Pradeep was anxious and argumentative because he wanted to purchase a puppy for Rs 800 and was falling short of Rs 200, which he asked from his mother, Ganeshi.
When Ganeshi refused giving him any money, he got furious and they entered into a heated argument and the accused bludgeoned the victim to death using a hammer. His wife Rameshwari also came under attack as she tried to intervene.
His children witnessed the whole incident and his teenage son raised an alarm and called the neighbours, when Pradeep took an opportunity to flee the spot.
Though neighbours gathered and helped Rameshwari with her wounds, Ganeshi was dead on the spot. Police were informed and Rameshwari was shifted to hospital while Ganeshi was declared dead by the doctors. Condition of victim wife was stated to be stable.
A search was launched by the police to nab Pradeep who remained at large till the filing of this report. Police said that a case of murder and attempt to murder was lodged against him and further probe was on.
