Kolhapur: Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik informed on Friday that the Kolhapur airport runway will be extended to 3,000m.
After a review meeting at the district collectorate he told reporters, "At present, the runway of the Kolhapur airport will be extended to 2,300m. But it will be further increased to 3,000m, considering the expansion of air services in the future. The airport will also have an aero bridge facility."
He added that additional flight services will start on the Bengaluru, Hyderabad route and the new Nagpur route, from May 15.
Mahadik added that the number of central employees in the district is large, and accordingly, a Kendriya Vidyalaya for the children of these employees will be started within a year. District administration has suggested two places to set up the Kendriya Vidyalaya.
"After the approval of the central committee, this work will commence. Efforts are on to speed up the Kolhapuri Chappal cluster scheme," he said.
He also said, "A meeting will be held with public works, forest department, and district administration to resolve the issue of these roads soon."
