Indore: The Industrial Area police in Ratlam arrested a man for allegedly running an online IPL betting operation. They seized a betting slip accounting for Rs 33 lakh, along with five mobile phones and a tablet.
Inspector Munendra Gautam said that the team received a tip-off about a person operating an online cricket betting racket from a building in Ratlam. Upon reaching the location, the police found the door of the flat open and spotted a man using a mobile phone, with additional phones and a tablet placed beside him.
Upon questioning, he identified himself as Ashish Kukkad, a resident of Pratap Nagar in Jaipur, currently staying in Ratlam. The investigation revealed that Ashish was engaged in placing and managing bets on live IPL matches through a mobile application, with the intent of earning illegal profit.
The police recovered a slip detailing Rs 33 lakh worth of betting transactions, five mobile phones, a tablet and a pen used in maintaining betting records. Ashish was arrested on the spot and a case was registered against him under section 4(k) of the Gambling Act.
