Bangladesh Cricket Team head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has been suspended by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on disciplinary grounds for 48 hours after two counts of misconduct emerged against him. Following his two-day suspension, Hathurusinghe's contract will be terminated. The announcement was made by Bangladesh Cricket Board (PCB) President Faruque Ahmed during a press conference held in Mirpur today. Ahmed claimed Hathurusinghe was accused of assualting a player as well as taking more leaves than allowed. "Hathurusinghe has two counts of misconduc. First is about an assault on a player. Secondly, he took too many leaves, more than what was in his contract," said Ahmed. The decision comes after strong rumors in the media over Hathurusinghe allegedly slapping a player during the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India last year.
Hathurusinghe Set To Be Replaced By Phil SimmonsVeteran Phil Simmons, who has previously been the head coach of the Zimbabwe, Ireland, West Indies, and Afghanistan teams, will take charge of the Bangladesh cricket team as interim coach till the 2025 Champions Trophy. As far as Hathurusinghe is concerned, the axe was on the cards after Ahmed called for Bangladesh to have a better coach following his appointment. Hathurusinghe's last assignment in charge of the Bangladesh team proved to be a forgettable one as they were beaten by India in both the Test and T20I series. The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led outfit were whitewashed 2-0 in the Test series, which included defeat in the Kanpur Test, in which two and a half days of play were lost due to rain. Later, they were outclassed 3-0 in the three-match T20I series too. However, Hathurusinghe was in charge of the team when they created history in Pakistan not long ago. Bangladesh won both a Test match and series against Pakistan for the first time in history. You may also like
