Founder of rock band 'The Gateful Dead,' bassist Phil Lesh died at the age of 84, a post on the musician's Instagram account announced. “Phil Lesh, bassist and founding member of The Grateful Dead, passed peacefully this morning," the statement read. "He was surrounded by his family and full of love." Lesh was married to Jill Lesh, who also served as his manager through most of his later music career. As per reports, she took the financial calls on behalf of Bill, who even at the age of 71, was performing a large number of live concerts every year. As per the Grateful Dead fan blog Tripping DelightFantastic, Jill and Phil Lesh first met in Berkely, California, while she was a server at the San Raphael breakfast joint, called 'Station Cafe'. However, the couple has never revealed how exactly they met."Phil brought immense joy to everyone around him and leaves behind a legacy of music and love" the statement on his Instagram page on Friday read. "We request that you respect the Lesh family’s privacy at this time.”Phil and Jill Lesh have two children - Grahame Leash and Brian Lesh.Grahame Lesh is also a musician, following his father's footsteps. He is known for the band 'Mid Night North.' He is also known for performing frequently with other bands, such as his father's Phil Lesh and Friends, The Terrapin Family Band and others. He has over 23,000 followers on Instagram.Brian Leash is also a musician and has performed several times with Phil Lesh and Friends and other US-based bands.
