The Jamia Millia Islami (JMI), in a statement on Wednesday, said that the scuffle which broke out on Tuesday night (October 22) during Diwali celebrations appeared to be a "sponsored incident" involving "outside elements." with the intent of disturbing the university's peaceful atmosphere. The university, in an official statement, expressed concerns over deliberate attempts to disturb the peaceful environment of the campus. JMI has lodged a formal complaint at the Jamia Nagar Police Station. "The incident appears to be a completely sponsored one, and there seems to be involvement of some outside elements with an attempt to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the university," the univeristy's statement read.The university stated that it had given students conditional approval to celebrate Diwali, and the festivities remained peaceful until around 7:30 pm, when unidentified individuals started raising slogans."These outside elements were responsible for instigating the disturbance, which eventually led to some students joining in a fit of rage," said the university.
Complaint Lodged Jamila Millia Islamia has lodged a formal complaint at the Jamia Nagar Police Station and is reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved. "The accused are being identified through CCTV footage and internal sources for taking appropriate action against them," the statement confirmed.Highlighting Jamia's history, the university said, "Jamia Millia Islamia is an important center of Ganga-Jamuni culture, and every year, people of all religions celebrate festivals here happily." A video of the incident went viral on social media, according to which, a huge crowd gathered on the campus, and raised ‘Palestine Zindabad’ slogans.
It is alleged that a few members belonging to a certain group tried to clean the rangoli with their feet. This triggered the members of another group, leading to a huge ruckus on the campus. The video of the incident showed a large crowd gathering in the varsity, causing massive chaos.
