Bengaluru Metro Purple Line Faces Disruption Today Due To Heavy Rain; Are Services Running Normally?

Bengaluru: Namma Metro Purple Line metro services were temporarily disrupted this morning after a tree fell on the tracks between SV Road and Indiranagar around 6:15 a.m., causing delays. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) maintenance team quickly responded, working to clear the tree and restore services. During this time, metro trains were only operational between Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield, and MG Road and Challaghatta. Full services resumed at 8:05 a.m., with BMTC feeder buses bridging the gap between MG Road and Baiyappanahalli.BMRCL’s Chief Public Relations Officer, BL Yashavanth Chavan, stated that the tree had been leaning against the viaduct, with its branches obstructing the tracks. The team successfully removed the tree, allowing operations to return to normal.In addition to metro disruptions, heavy rain has wreaked havoc across Bengaluru, leading to widespread flooding. Residents of Sri Sai Layout in Horamavu, such as Neelufar Ahmad, are frustrated, as flooding has become an annual issue, with no significant action taken despite visits from top officials. Many residents were forced to temporarily relocate due to the rising water.Kendriya Vihar in Yelahanka also faced severe flooding, with water entering the apartment complex's basement and entrance. Several major roads in North Bengaluru, including areas around Kogilu, Bagalur, and Ballari Road, were submerged, making travel difficult for motorists. Flooding was particularly severe around Puttenahalli Lake on Doddaballapur Road, with waterlogged streets causing massive traffic delays.Hebbal Flyover saw traffic crawling throughout the day, especially during peak hours, while other areas like Bellandur Lake Road, already marred by potholes, were inundated with nearly four feet of water. In Manyata Tech Park, employees struggled to navigate through waterlogged roads within the campus.In a particularly alarming incident on Belagere Road, a school bus became stranded in floodwaters, leaving children inside calling for help. Local residents quickly hired a tractor to rescue the children and safely remove the bus.
