The fast of Ahoi Ashtami is observed on the Ashtami (eighth day) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik. On this day, mothers observe the Ahoi Mata fast for the long life, happiness, and prosperity of their children. This fast is considered one of the more difficult fasts as it is observed without water (Nirjala) and is broken only after offering water (Arghya) to the stars after nightfall.
