A scenic in the UK known for its rich maritime history is reportedly considered one of the thanks to the microclimate that surrounds it.

Porthmadog in is known not only for its pleasant weather but also for its stunning scenery, maritime heritage, and family-friendly attractions.

With around 4,200 residents, the coastal town frequently experiences some of the .

In June 2023, it recorded a high of 31C, marking it as one of the hottest spots in the country according to the Met Office, reports .

Its appeal goes beyond just the climate, making it a popular destination for both relaxation and exploration in North Wales.

Though temperatures are usually lower in coastal towns, Porthmadog's geography gives it a microclimate, which makes it perfect for sun-seekers.

Met Office meteorologist Mark Wilson said: "When the wind comes from the northeast Porthmadog gets a lot of shelter.

"Although it's by the coast it's not really getting a lot of breeze off the sea meaning the temperatures keep rising and rising.

"Thanks to its geographical location Porthmadog has shelter from high ground, hills and mountains, around it means it's protected from the north-easterly wind."

BBC weatherman Derek Brockway echoed the opinion of the national forecaster, saying that the air flowing over the mountain sinks and warms up, which helps to increase temperatures.

Porthmadog is an ideal destination for those looking to experience Wales without the usual dreary weather.

The town boasts stunning beaches that draw sun-seekers, including Carreg Wen, which offers picturesque views of the Afon Dwyryd estuary, and the rocky Afon Glaslyn beach surrounded by beautiful hills and grassland.

Blackrock Sands, known for its expansive stretch and suitability for beach sports, adds to the town's appeal.

Notable historical figures like TE Lawrence and poet Shelley are associated with the area, enriching its cultural significance.
