Robert Downey Jr sends Marvel fans wild with Avengers Secret Wars post

Robert Downey Jr has been shooting Avengers Doomsday in London, having returned to the MCU as the villainous Doctor Doom.

The Marvel blockbuster is set to be followed up by Avengers Secret Wars, named after the multiverse-colliding comic book storyline of the same name.

Rumours abound of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine joining forces with Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man to take on Doom.

However, Downey will also play an Iron Man variant who fights the villain, meaning RDJ vs RDJ.

And now it looks like the star himself is heavily hinting at this with his latest Instagram video.

The Tony Stark star posted a clip of himself listening to his son Indio Downey's music. And as the camera pans, two Marvel comics come into shot. One of them is Secret Wars and the other is Iron Man: Legacy of Doom, with the latter featuring Iron Man battling Doctor Doom.

Understandably, fans went wild in the comments, with the top one receiving over 3,700 likes. It reads: "Iron Man vs Doom!?!!! How !! New version!!!" By "new version" they mean a Tony Stark variant from another universe, as the Earth-616 Iron Man sacrificially died in Avengers Endgame and Marvel will not undo his death.

Avengers Doomsday hits UK cinemas Christmas 2026 and Avengers Secret Wars follows Christmas 2027.
