Matheus Cunha has hinted at his true feelings after Manchester United agreed a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo. It has taken a while but the Red Devils are finally pushing to wrap up negotiations with Brentford after nearly six weeks of trying. They have settled on a transfer fee of £71million, consisting of a guaranteed £65m with another £6m in potential add-ons.
The initial figure will reportedly be paid in four instalments, potentially leaving room in United's transfer budget for more business. It marks the end of a lengthy transfer saga which seemed at risk of falling apart before a deal was eventually struck. Mbeumo is expected to undergo a medical this weekend before officially becoming a United player.
Cunha, who arrived from Wolves earlier this summer, will be delighted that Mbeumo will be joining him at Old Trafford. He made his feelings clear by liking Fabrizio Romano's post on Instagram shortly after the news was reported.
It has certainly been a long time coming, with United seeing a number of bids rejected before finally reaching a breakthrough. Their initial approach, worth around £45m with another £10m in potential bonuses, was swiftly turned down by Brentford.
United went back in with an improved bid of around £55m plus another £7.5m in add-ons. They received the same answer from Brentford, leading to speculation that negotiations would stall without a positive resolution.

However, the Red Devils ultimately succeeded with a third offer and the deal is now close to being finalised. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue and Mbeumo could join United in time for their pre-season tour of the United States.
United's next task will be to sign a new goalkeeper, with the injured Andre Onana expected to miss the start of the Premier League season.
They are said to be chasing a move for Royal Antwerp stopper Senne Lammens, who has already indicated that he would jump at the chance to join the Red Devils.
Speaking earlier this year, the 23-year-old struggled to contain his excitement after learning of United's interest in his signature.
"The first time I heard it, I thought 'wow', immediately a world team that follows you," said Lammers. "That is special. Of course, I was also asked about it a lot and when I made a save in training
"Those top clubs have so many scouts and follow so many players, so it doesn't have to mean anything yet. It will only become clear in the summer whether anything will come of it, but of course it is only positive.
"It is about the best competition in the world and my profile, my stature and way of playing is suitable for English football. You have to hold your own there physically and that suits me."
