Lazio president Claudio Lotito has launched his latest attack on Mason Greenwood, labelling the former Manchester United star a "mercenary." Greenwood has been the subject of deep-cutting comments by Lotito since Lazio missed out on this signature to Marseille.
The 23-year-old left United permanently in July, joining Marseille in a deal worth up to £27million.
Greenwood resumed his career at Getafe last season after 18 months away from football, registering 10 goals and six assists for the La Liga outfit.
Lazio were in the running last summer before he opted for a switch to Spain. The Serie A side were also in the frame this year but missed out again, this time to the Phocaeans.
And Lotito has claimed that Greenwood's decision to snub a move to Rome was down to the money on offer, insisting he doesn't regret missing out.
"He is absolutely not a regret. Someone who does not accept coming to Lazio cannot be a regret," Lotito explained.
"He is happy at Marseille; he made a choice, and that is fine. We do not accept mercenaries; we only want those who choose Lazio. We have had enough mercenaries."
Greenwood has enjoyed an encouraging start at Marseille, scoring five goals in his opening seven Ligue 1 games.
The ex-United No. 11 has registered a further assist and was recently named Marseille's Player of the Month for September.
Lotito's fresh attack on Greenwood wasn't his first, having claimed in the summer that Lazio were targeting players worth "10 times" the England international.
He said: "Greenwood? Last year, we were 20 minutes late due to a mismatch between the markets in Italy and England, and so he fell through.
"I had signed Greenwood last year, but you didn't even know who he was. He fell through due to a mismatch of an hour between the two markets, and the facts proved me right because he then did well.
"But it's not just Greenwood. There are also other players that you don't even know. If I told you a name, which I won't tell you because I want to keep you curious, that is worth 10 times Greenwood."
Lazio have hit a strong run of form after a slow start to the season, winning their last four games in the Serie A and Europa League.
Marco Baroni's attack hasn't been short of goals - only Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Atalanta have netted more times across the opening seven league fixtures.
However, the failure to lure Greenwood to the Stadio Olympico still appears to be urking Lotito, despite his stubborn public front.
