
A huge fire erupted on Electric Avenue in Brixton, south Londonearlier today with 10 fire engines and 70 firefighters rushing to the scene. Dramatic images posted online showed thick clouds of smoke pouring into the air as emergency crews battle the fierce blaze.
A store area at the rear of a mixed-use building was alight, and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. London Fire Brigade urged peole to avoid the area and close their windows after receiving around 25 calls this morning about the blaze.
Smoke was seen entering Brixton Underground Station causing the station to be closed, no injuries have been reported.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "The fire in Brixton is now under control but we will be on scene through the afternoon, with cordons remaining in place."
