Shoppers have been advised to look out for one sign when they are shopping for bananas in their local supermarket. Bananas are a popular fruit in the UK due to their health benefits and diversity. They are used in things like porridge, banana bread, and an array of desserts. When you are shopping for bananas, you might notice slight variations in what you see on the supermarket's shelves.

Some might have spots, some might be paler than others, and some might even be slightly green. According to experts, when it comes to picking out the best bananas to buy in the supermarket, there is one trait you should look out for. This means that your banana will be near-perfectly ripened, and you can enjoy it pretty much as soon as you get home. According to the foodies at The Spruce Eats, there is one trait you should look out for in your bananas when shopping in the supermarket.

They say that bananas that are right in the "middle of the ripening spectrum" are the best ones to buy when you are grocery shopping. And they are easy to recognise.

They explain that these bananas, as opposed to ones that are overripened or underripened, will be mostly yellow in colour with small amounts of green on both ends of the fruit. These bananas haven't fully ripened just yet, so they will last for a few days when you take them home.

Additionally, won't have to wait too long for them to ripen. Unless you are planning on eating your bananas straight away, this is the stage of ripeness that you probably want to go for.

However, if you plan to use them immediately, you should look for bananas that have ripened a bit more. These bananas will be yellow with some brown spots on the skin and softer on the inside.

If you want your bananas to last much longer in your cupboard or fridge, choose a banana with a greener tint on its skin. These will take longer to ripen at home if you want to use them later in the week.

When it comes to storing your bananas, the experts say that you should place themsomewhere at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Additionally, there are some fruits that will make your bananas ripen faster, so it is best to keep them away from each other.
