Torrential rains in Delhi-NCR became a problem for the people. The worst situation was in Gurugram. People were seen struggling with traffic jams at at least 200 places in Delhi. 11 people have died in rain-related accidents in NCR. The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan till July 16. An orange alert for rain has also been issued in Delhi-NCR on Friday.
Meanwhile, amid heavy rains in various states, the Central Water Commission (CWC) on Thursday expressed concern about floods at 21 river monitoring sites across the country. Four of these are in a state of severe flood. However, so far, no river has breached its highest flood level (HFL). The water level has crossed the danger mark at four places in Assam and Bihar. The Dhansiri river in Assam's Golaghat district and the Bagmati and Gandak rivers in Bihar are among the major rivers where water levels have remained critical and are either rising or stagnant. Above normal flood situation is being observed at 17 additional places where water levels are hovering between warning and danger levels. These include river areas of Assam, Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The situation in Assam remains a matter of concern as the Barak, Kushiyara, and Katakhal rivers are rising in Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi districts, respectively.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Bagmati River in Runisaidpur and the Kosi River in Basua in Bihar is also rising. However, they are still below the danger level. In Uttar Pradesh, several Ganga monitoring stations, including Fatehgarh, Garhmukteshwar, and Kachla Bridge, have reported above the warning level. The Ghaghara River at Elginbridge and the Gandak River at Khadda are also being closely monitored.
25 reservoirs in 13 states also in spate
The CWC also said that water inflows have been reported to be equal to or above the limit in 25 reservoirs in 13 states. These include major reservoirs like Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh, Almatti in Karnataka, Hirakud in Odisha and Indira Sagar and Bargi dams in Madhya Pradesh. The Lakshmi barrage in Telangana on the Godavari river witnessed the highest water inflow with 18,000 cumecs. The Indira Sagar reservoir in Madhya Pradesh received an inflow of 11,000 cumecs. Other affected states with active water inflow forecasts include Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Here, water levels are being closely monitored at sites like Maithon, Panchat, Gosikhurd, Mettur and Kangsabati.
Centre gives Rs 1,000 crore aid to six flood-landslide-affected states
The central government has approved the release of Rs 1,066.80 crore for six flood and landslide-affected states. The Union Home Ministry said on Thursday that this amount is being given as the central share from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).
The ministry said that out of this, Rs 455.60 crore has been given to Uttarakhand, Rs 375.60 crore to Assam, Rs 29.20 crore to Manipur, Rs 30.40 crore to Meghalaya, Rs 22.80 crore to Mizoram and Rs 153.20 crore to Kerala.
The central government has already released Rs 6,166.00 crore from SDRF to 14 states and Rs 1,988.91 crore from National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) to 12 states.
