Mark Zuckerberg: In today's digital era, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become the biggest race and Meta is now going to make this game even bigger. According to a report, Mark Zuckerberg's company is paying contractors in the US up to $55 (about Rs 5,000) per hour so that they can create chatbots related to local culture and language for countries like India.
Why does Meta need Hindi creators?Meta isn't just looking for coders. The company wants people who have at least six years of experience in storytelling, character creation, and prompt engineering, and who are fluent in languages like Hindi, Indonesian, Spanish, or Portuguese. The goal of these chatbots is to allow people to connect with AI personalities on Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp that feel local and real.
Zuckerberg's big planZuckerberg's vision is that AI chatbots should become a part of people's lives rather than just tech tools. He believes that a time will come when such chatbots will act like real friends and make our daily needs easier.
This is not the first experiment. In 2023, Meta launched versions of celebrity-based AI bots such as Kendall Jenner and Snoop Dogg, but they did not last long. In 2024, the company introduced AI Studio through which ordinary users can also create their own chatbots.
Why is this project special for India? There are crores of users of Instagram and WhatsApp in India. In such a situation, launching Hindi chatbots can prove to be very beneficial for Meta. If these bots connect with the language and culture of Indian users, then both the engagement and revenue of the company will increase rapidly.
Challenges and controversiesHowever, creating chatbots is not easy. Meta has been accused in the past that its AI bots leaked sensitive data and generated inappropriate content many times. US senators had also sought an answer from the company. The controversial characters of some chatbots in Indonesia and the US (such as "Russian Girl" and "Lonely Woman") damaged the company's image. This is why this time Meta is focusing on creating real and safe characters by involving local creators and experts.
What will be the result?Meta does not want to take any chances at this point. That is why it is investing in writers and cultural experts who can create realistic and relatable AI personalities for the digital world. It will be interesting to see how much impact Hindi chatbots have in India. Will this move prove to be a masterstroke by Zuckerberg or the reason for a new controversy?
