Man Utd make final decision on Kobbie Mainoo after star's transfer request

Manchester United will NOT allow Kobbie Mainoo to leave the club on deadline day. Mainoo, 20, has found opportunities limited under Ruben Amorim this season.

That led to suggestions he could leave, with Napoli among his admirers, while the midfielder also made a request to leave the club on loan for more first-team opportunities. But it appears that an exit in any guise will not be completed.

According to Sky Sports, United chiefs will not be allowing Mainoo to leave on deadline day. He remains a key part of the Red Devils’ plans for the current campaign.

Boss Ruben Amorim made his feelings very clear on the youngster’s future ahead of the weekend’s win against Burnley. He said: "I want Kobbie to stay. He needs to fight for his place, and we need Kobbie, so that is not going to change.

“I understand that the players that are not playing in this moment are disappointed. Everyone will have the same opportunity to play. You have to fight during the week."

Mainoo broke into United first-team squad during the 2022/23 campaign and he has gone on to make 74 appearances for the club and scored seven goals. But he has made just one Premier League outing so far this season.

Mainoo has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford, with club chiefs keen to tie him down to a new deal. But so far an agreement has not been forthcoming.

While Mainoo looks set to stay where he is for now, the same cannot be said of a number of his teammates. Alejandro Garnacho has already completed a £40m move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Striker Rasmus Hojlund also has interest from Napoli and a deal could be signed off before Monday evening’s 7pm deadline. Work also remains ongoing over Antony’s move away from Old Trafford.

Real Betis remain keen to re-sign the Brazilian winger following his successful loan move last season. Terms have been thrashed out over a €25m (£21.65m) permanent switch.

Away from outgoings, United are still keen on adding a new goalkeeper to their squad. They have identified Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens as a priority target and have agreed a £18.2m fee with the Belgian side.

That has seen United abandon their interest in Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, who now looks set to stay in the Midlands for the time being. The Argentine has not played in any of Villa’s opening three Premier League games of the season.
