When it comes to public appearances, Lady Victoria Starmer knows how to make a sartorial statement. This week, the Prime Minister’s wife aptly opted for a series of Labour red outfits - including an affordable cardigan from a British high-street brand.
It comes as Keir Starmer and his wife appeared in Liverpool this week for the Labour Party Conference. On Tuesday ahead of the major event, the couple were spotted taking a stroll along the River Mersey with takeaway coffees in hand, posing for snaps with a passerby’s dog.
For the casual, daytime outing, Victoria wore a short sleeved, textured cardigan with gold button detailing. Though her exact knit hasn’t been confirmed, we believe it to be the Cotton Blend Textured Button Front Cropped Cardigan from Marks and Spencer.

The red knit is perfect for the transitional season, with the short sleeves being ideal for the in-between temperatures. According to the brand, the slim fit creates a ‘flattering silhouette’ with the cropped length offering a ‘contemporary feel’.
Priced at £36, the wallet-friendly cardigan comes in sizes XS to XL, and has been praised for its ‘classy’ yet ‘casual’ appearance. Though released for autumn, some shoppers have suggested its festive hue could make it a prime choice for Christmas outfits, too.
The knit, which also comes in navy - another colour often worn by Victoria - has earned a 4.7 star rating on the M&S website. One said: “I bought this as I thought could be classy and a casual look and it’s lovely great fit and feel.”
“A lovely cardigan in a very bright red,” said another. “Will be great for Christmas. A good fit and length.”
Some, however, were less keen on the cropped length, giving it a three star review, which read: “Very cute, just not for me. More cropped than I'd imagined.”
But the majority of feedback had been positive, with another praising its versatility: “Love this little cardigan/jacket, looks great jeans or trousers, buttoned up or open with white tee shirt underneath.”
“Pretty cardigan with good length sleeve for upper arm coverage,” a fifth wrote.
For a more affordable alternative, H&M has this Short-sleeved cardigan for £22.99. Like Marks and Spencer’s, it comes in red, but also cream, black and a navy and cream stripe version. Cheaper still is this New Look short sleeve button down cardigan from ASOS, currently on sale for £16.73.
Victoria has historically supported the UK’s high street and favours British labels, so it wouldn’t be a surprise for Marks and Spencer to be on her list of go-to brands. On the same day for the Labour Party Conference, she opted for a tomato red Karen Millen midi dress, which she hired from rental platform By Rotation.
She's also been spotted wearing several other British brands during her public appearances, having previously worn a dress from Reiss most recently, as well as a head-to-to outfit from Saint + Sofia during President Trump's visit to the UK. Her most recent Karen Millen dress is also a subtle nod to one of her most important looks, when she wore a red midi dress from Me + Em - another British brand - during her first day at Downing Street.
But for those looking to channel Lady Victoria’s chic style, fashion fans can find the Cotton Blend Textured Button Front Cropped Cardigan for £36 on the M&S website.
