Kevin De Bruyne all but confirms Man City star wants to quit club under Pep Guardiola

Send Push

Kevin De Bruyne has dropped a cheeky hint that Jack Grealish might be joining him at Napoli this summer. It comes after his own exit from Manchester City after a trophy-laden decade.

De Bruyne is set to embark on a fresh challenge in Italy, having penned a two-year contract with the Serie A titans. Although he's leaving behind a glittering array of honours won alongside his City comrades, there's a chance he could coax another of the club's stars to join him on Italian soil.

The Belgian maestro teased the possibility of Grealish, who has found himself on the fringes at City, making a switch to Napoli during an interview with Corriere dello Sport. When asked about if the Englishman had spoken to him about his move to Naples, he replied: "Maybe," with a grin.

Grealish has fallen out of favour at City, with Pep Guardiola even making the decision to omit him from his Club World Cup squad this summer. While Everton have emerged as potential suitors for the 29-year-old, a number of other clubs have been linked with the winger, who arrived at the Etihad for £100million in 2021.

Dean Smith, meanwhile, has openly shared his desire for a reunion with the former Aston Villa ace, hoping to entice him across the pond to Charlotte FC in the MLS, reports the Manchester Evening News. Yet, despite Smith's eagerness to snatch Grealish away from Man City, he conceded that the player still has "unfinished business" in Europe, and Napoli could be the answer to that.

Grealish has racked up over 157 appearances for Man City, netting 17 goals and providing 23 assists. His trophy cabinet boasts three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup, a UEFA Super Cup and a Champions League trophy.

He also clinched the runner-up spot at the 2020 European Championships with England and is eager to make his mark this season to secure a place in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the 2026 World Cup. As speculation around Grealish continues to mount, a reunion with De Bruyne could potentially be on the horizon.

That's if Grealish doesn't join Everton this summer on either a permanent or loan deal, however, with the Toffees opening talks with City with regards to the star's services. The Sky Blues are open to letting Grealish leave the north west this summer should the right deal be agreed.

Considering David Moyes is looking for a squad overhaul this summer, a season-long loan may be his best option at securing Grealish for the fresh campaign. However, his hefty wages could be a hurdle, and Everton may need City to pay a portion of them for a deal to work.
