All Creatures Great and Small star admits 'we're not ready' as they open up on show's future

All Creatures Great and Small has returned to Channel 5 for a sixth series and audiences have already been treated to numerous touching scenes.

The principal cast members have been collaborating on the programme for years and have developed incredibly strong relationships during this period, with their close friendship evident on screen.

James Herriot actor Nicholas Ralph chatted exclusively to Reach publications regarding the programme's prospects as supporters are eagerly anticipating another series of the beloved family drama.

Speaking optimistically about his aspirations for series seven, he remarked: "There's certainly more stories to tell, I'd love to do more so we will see how long that is.

"That's to be seen, but for sure, currently there's more stories to tell and I'd love to do more."

Tristan Farnon actor Callum Woodhouse also discussed with Reach what lies ahead for the series, with the inaugural series broadcasting in 2020.

He continued: "I definitely don't think we are done yet, but also there's always the risk of overstaying your welcome and you don't want people to get sick of it.

"I'm sure Sam [West] said it a while ago, you want to leave them wanting more in a way.

"You want to finish like 'I wish there was one more' rather than finish and be like 'God they went two seasons over'.

"Whilst we are definitely not ready to finish, we don't want it to sort of outstay its welcome."

Nicholas revealed the cast became quite emotional whilst filming the sixth series as they contemplated how much progress they had all made.

He revealed: "It's wild, this year at the end of filming we were doing social media things and they were showing us clips from episode one and we look like babies.

"It's mad and that kind of brings it home as well, but yeah, we have gone four years in the future [for season six] so of course little Jimmy is about four years old and Rosie is about one, so it's a proper little family now.

"It's an absolute joy to play and come back to a character year on year. The six years have just been incredible, just to see the growth in everybody, it's been such a wonderful journey to have been on... and there's hopefully more to come."
