Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A tragic incident was captured on CCTV at a marble godown in the Dwarkapuri area, where a 19-year-old youth was crushed to death under heavy marble slabs.
The mishap occurred around 10 pm on Friday when the youth was searching for the key to lock the godown.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Fareed, son of Jamuniddin, a resident of Sirpur Kankad. The incident took place at New Peshwa Marble Godown in Dwarkapuri.
ASI Ram Singh Baghel stated that Fareed was trying to locate the godown’s key when the incident occurred. CCTV footage reveals several workers searching around the marble slabs. While others moved ahead, Fareed lingered behind and attempted to pull out one of the slabs. Suddenly, the stack became unstable and toppled.
One slab fell on Fareed’s legs, while another struck him on the head, causing him to collapse. Workers rushed to his aid and managed to remove the slabs, but he was already bleeding heavily. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Kin allege owner's negligence
Fareed’s family said he had come to Indore from Ujjain two months ago for work. They blamed the godown owner for not providing any safety equipment, calling it negligence that led to the fatal accident. They also alleged that the owner initially claimed Fareed had died in a road accident and tried to hush up the matter. However, the truth came to light after the CCTV footage surfaced.
