Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a powerful display of patriotism and solidarity, the city witnessed a grand Tiranga Yatra on Friday in honour of the Indian armed forces which successfully executed Operation Sindoor in response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
Chief minister Dr Mohan Yadav and cabinet ministers Kailash Vijayvargiya, Tulsi Silawat , MP Shankar Lalwani and mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav also participated in it, along with thousands of citizens representing various organisations.
The yatra, which began at Bada Ganpati Square at 5:30 PM and concluded at the Rajwada, was organised by the city unit of the BJP. However, the event was branded as a community-driven effort rather than a political one.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav lauded the Indian army and highlighted the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The US President (Donald Trump) had to correct his statement. This is the result of the strategic and effective leadership of our Prime Minister”, Yadav said.
The yatra included a line-up of processions, including a DJ in front, followed by bands, chariots and tableaux. A striking aspect of the event was the presence of Jennifer Nathaniel, the wife of Sushil Nathaniel, who lost his life in the Pahalgam terror attack. Jennifer’s participation added an emotional touch to the event as the crowd paid homage to the martyrs.
To accommodate the massive turnout, 150 welcome platforms were constructed along the route.
Various social, business, industrial and religious organisations actively participated, including the Bohra community, which contributed three scout bands and the Muslim community, which walked with a band while donning traditional attire.
A young woman, dressed as Indian Army Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, led the Yatra on horseback, symbolising the valour and strength of the Indian armed forces. She was followed by 20 citizens representing prominent historical figures of India, also on horseback.
The Tiranga Yatra also showcased a colourful Tricolour chariot designed by the Indore Municipal Corporation. Participants from diverse communities, including Rajput, Brahmin, Sindhi, Agrawal, Patidar, Banjara, Kayastha, Bengali and Maharashtrian societies, marched with banners, expressing their patriotic fervour.
Students and staff from 15 colleges and schools, along with athletes from various sports organisations, added to the vibrant atmosphere. Workers from 37 labour organisations, vendors from local markets and members of the Saffron Rickshaw Organisation also participated, further underlining the inclusivity of the event.
The Tiranga Yatra concluded with a rousing display of unity, patriotism and collective pride as thousands of citizens gathered at Rajwada to chant slogans and wave the Tricolour in unison.
“This yatra was not just a BJP event but a collective celebration of the people,” said BJP city chief Sumit Mishra.
