Thane: In an alleged medical negligence case at Thane-based Lake City Hospital in February, the family of the deceased, Megha Salvi, 40, has submitted a written complaint to the Rabodi police.
The deceased’s husband, Deepak Salvi, has claimed that an innocuous colonoscopy led to perforation, resulting in Megha’s death. The hospital, however, has refuted allegations of negligence by its team of doctors.
Speaking to the FPJ, Megha’s family members claimed that the case involves not only medical negligence but also the alleged destruction of evidence. Kanika Amol Salvi, the deceased’s sister-in-law, who has raised the issue on social media, said, “It was a case of abdominal pain and Megha was advised to undergo a colonoscopy. No one had the slightest idea that this medical procedure would end her life so brutally.”
“On February 21, around 1pm, the procedure was conducted. Instead of discharging her, she was admitted for what the doctors claimed was a minor issue, keeping the family in the dark. The reality was that medical complications arose, leading to a life-threatening condition,” Kanika said.
“We were informed that the surgery had gone well and that there was no need to worry. However, no one was allowed to meet Megha. It was only when her husband, after waiting until late at night, forced the Resident Medical Officer to disclose her condition; he was told there was a sudden drop in her blood pressure. We insisted on shifting her to Jupiter Hospital, but by then we had lost crucial hours,” she said in the video.
Dr Nandan Pujari, the owner of Lake City Hospital, said, “There was absolutely no negligence on the part of the hospital or doctors. This matter is now pending with the police. The relatives and the husband are involved in illegal violent activities at the hospital and are defaming us on social media. Appropriate legal action has been initiated against them.”
