Salman Khan & Aishwarya Rai Fell In Love During Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Reveals Smita Jaykar: 'Romance Was Showing On Their Faces'

Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai's relationship was widely known, although the duo never officially confirmed it. They began dating during the filming of their 1999 hit Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, but parted ways in 2002. Aishwarya is now married to actor Abhishek Bachchan, while Salman remains single. Years later, their co-star Smita Jaykar, who played Aishwarya’s mother in the film, opened up about their relationship.

Speaking to Filmymantra, Smita shared, "They fell in love there and their affair flourished there. It helped the film a lot because both of them had those moony-moony eyes and romance was showing on their faces, which worked really well for the film."

About Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film also starred Ajay Devgn in the lead.

The movie narrates the story of a newly-wed man Vanraj (Ajay), who discovers that his wife Nandini (Aishwarya) is in love with another man Sameer (Salman) and decides to unite them. However, the story took a turn when Nandini had a change of heart and decided to stay with Vanraj (Ajay) instead of running away with Sameer.

Journalist reveals why Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai did not marry

Recently, on an episode of the Meri Saheli Podcast titled Bollywood's Famous Controversial Love Stories, journalist Hanif Zaveri revealed why Salman and Aishwarya never tied the knot despite being in love. He shared that Salman's past relationships with actresses like Somy Ali and Sangeeta Bijlani allegedly upset Aishwarya's parents, who suspected he might be flirting with their daughter.

The journalist further stated, "Salman wanted Aishwarya to marry him soon, but Aishwarya wasn't ready to settle down and get married at that time. This caused a rift in their relationship."
