Mumbai: As part of the ‘Digital School’ initiative, 111 schools—87 in Karjat taluka and 24 in Jamkhed taluka—were equipped with interactive touch panels and digital e-learning software aligned with the Maharashtra State Board curriculum. At the virtual launch of the initiative on Monday, Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde emphasised the urgent need for a digital education policy.
Prof. Shinde stated that in the present era of technology, digital education is no longer optional but essential. He highlighted the importance of adopting a structured digital education policy to ensure consistency, accessibility, and effectiveness across schools, especially in rural areas.
He noted that such initiatives make learning more engaging and easier to understand by using visual and interactive methods in place of traditional tools such as blackboards and chalk.
He credited the beginning of this digital transformation to the leadership of former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and stated that the initiative is in line with the vision of providing improved educational resources to students in Zilla Parishad schools.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’, Prof. Shinde said the government has consistently promoted creative and stress-free learning environments that boost student confidence.
Prof. Shinde also stressed the role of teachers in the successful adoption of digital tools. While technology can enhance the teaching process, he remarked, the teacher remains central to education.
He encouraged teachers to adapt to modern teaching methods and integrate technology into their everyday practices. He also called for personalised learning based on individual student aptitude and interest, facilitated by interactive digital content.
He pointed to the simultaneous digital upgrade of 111 schools as an example of how technology can drive large-scale transformation in the education sector. He urged both teachers and parents to encourage students to make the best use of digital resources, to remain curious, and to approach learning with enthusiasm.
