Jabalpur EOW Raid: Jagdish Sarvate's Mother Sent To Jail, Said Tiger Skin Was Given By Father-In-Law

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): In the recent development in Jabalpur EOW raid case, Savitri Sarvate, the mother of Jagdish Sarvate was arrested by the Forest Department. 

She was found in possession of a tiger skin, which is illegal under the Wildlife Protection Act. During interrogation, the elderly woman claimed that the tiger skin was given to her by her father-in-law nearly 30 years ago. She reportedly used to sit on the skin while performing prayers.

This arrest comes just 2 days after the EOW (Economic Offences Wing) raided Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Sarvate's residence in an ongoing investigation related to assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Jagdish Sarvate is currently posted as Deputy Commissioner in the Tribal Welfare Department.

So far, the EOW has uncovered property worth ₹5.89 crores. They also found gold and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees in bank lockers.

The investigation by the EOW is still ongoing.

The Tiger skin was discovered by EOW officials at Sarvate’s Adhartal residence on Wednesday during the investigation. 

The tiger skin was used as a ‘mat’ in Sarvate's house. Forest Department officials immediately seized the skin and a case was registered against Jagdish Sarvate under Wildlife Protection Act 1972, specifically under sections 9 and 50, which carry punishment up to 12 years in jail and fine up to Rs 10 lakh.

Notably, on Tuesday, EOW raided the houses of Tribal Welfare Department deputy commissioner Jagdish Prasad Sarvate in Jabalpur, Bhopal and Sagar and unearthed assets worth ₹5.89 crore.

They were acting on a complaint of disproportionate assets against him.
