Raksha Bandhan Festival Health Tips: Today, the festival of Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated with great pomp across the country. This day is very special for the relationship between brother and sister. On Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie Rakhi on the wrists of their brothers and feed them sweets. There is an abundance of sweets at this festival, and people enjoy the dishes fiercely. However, many times in the pursuit of enjoying, people make some health-related mistakes and fall ill. If you want to enjoy Raksha Bandhan to the fullest and also want to keep your health good, then definitely avoid some small mistakes. In this regard, let us know important tips from Dr. Sonia Rawat, Director of the Preventive Health Department, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.

Eating more sweets on an empty stomach – Eating sweets on festivals is a tradition, but eating sweets on an empty stomach can be harmful to the body. When we consume more sugar on an empty stomach, the blood sugar level can increase suddenly. This can cause dizziness, nausea, or sudden fatigue. Eating sweets on an empty stomach can be very dangerous for diabetes patients. Such patients should avoid sweets or eat some light food before eating even a little sweet.
Eat oily and spicy foods in limited quantity – It is natural to taste the dishes during festivals, but if you eat more fried or spicy food than necessary, then problems like heartburn, indigestion, gas, and acidity can occur. Some people eat sweets, namkeen, chaat, and heavy food at the same time, which increases the load on the body and the digestive system gets spoiled. It is better to eat everything in limited quantities and keep a little gap between meals. Apart from this, keep drinking an adequate amount of water.
Avoid cold drinks – There is a lot of humidity on Rakshabandhan, and people get troubled by the heat. To get relief from this, people like to drink cold drinks or cold water. However, one should avoid doing this. Drinking cold drinks or cold water can cause problems like a sore throat, a cold, a cough, or a fever. Apart from this, cold drinks contain excessive sugar and acid, which not only increase weight but also harm the teeth. If you want, you can choose healthy options like lemonade, buttermilk, or coconut water instead.
Take care of hygiene and cleanliness – It is common to get sweets, dishes, or gifts from outside on Rakshabandhan, but if attention is not paid to the cleanliness and quality of these things, then the risk of food poisoning or viral infection can increase. It is important to wash hands before eating, check the freshness of sweets and avoid eating dishes kept in the open. This is especially important for children and the elderly, as their immunity is weak.

Staying hungry all day or eating late – On the day of Rakshabandhan, many people get so busy with the ritual of tying Rakhi and meeting relatives that they do not eat anything in the morning and eat directly in the afternoon or evening. This causes weakness in the body, and headache or fatigue is felt. Staying hungry for a long time can also affect blood pressure. So start your day with a healthy breakfast and have lunch on time.
