Vice Chancellor of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Ghatna Chakrapani, on Sunday said that the Hyderabad-based educational institution will offer free degree courses to all transgender individuals in the State, making it the first university with such an opportunity.
The scheme, which starts this academic year, mentions that any transgender person with a 10+2 or equivalent of Intermediate education can join a degree course. While all tuition fees are waived, a registration fee Rs 500 will be applied.
The university will also provide course material and tools to access the various materials and platforms, free of cost.
Students can seek admission at any study centre of the university in the State and attend classes physically.
Earlier, the university had announced free higher education to tribal children, particularly Gond, Koya, Chenchu and other indigenous communities.
