Delhi Weather News: Heavy rain swept across parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region on Saturday morning, disrupting flights and soaking the morning commute. Flight tracking site Flightradar reported roughly 90 flight delays and four cancellations due to poor weather conditions.
Shastri Bhawan, R.K. Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar saw some of the heaviest showers. On Mathura Road and outside Bharat Mandapam’s Gate No. 7, water pooled quickly, slowing vehicles and forcing pedestrians to wade through knee-deep patches.
Delhi-NCR rains: More showers expected in the Capital
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast for the day warned of “thunderstorm with rain”, with temperatures expected to peak at 33°C and drop to 25°C at night. Officials have cautioned that the capital could see another round of showers later in the day.
Himachal Pradesh on high rain alert
Separately, the IMD has sounded an orange alert for August 11 and 12 in three districts of Himachal Pradesh, warning of heavy rain. The rest of the state is under a yellow alert. The department said, “Heavy rainfall activity is expected to continue in many parts of the State over the next few days.”
The ongoing monsoon has already proved deadly. Since June 20, official data show 202 deaths from rain-related incidents. Of these, 108 were caused by rain, floods, and landslides, while 94 resulted from road accidents.
IMD Rain: Rainfall far above seasonal average
The IMD reports that August rainfall in Himachal is currently 35% above normal. Solan, Kullu, Kinnaur, Bilaspur, and Una have recorded almost double their usual levels. From June 1 to August 8, the state has seen 13% more rain than the seasonal average.
Shimla has logged the highest rainfall, with Mandi following closely at 65% above normal. Chamba, Una, Bilaspur, and Kangra have each recorded around 40% more rainfall than usual.
Despite these figures, no major flood warnings have been issued so far. Rain in some regions has been lighter in recent days, which officials say has helped ease the immediate risk.
