In a disturbing case from Bengaluru, two lecturers and their friend have been arrested for allegedly raping a student and blackmailing her using explicit videos. The accused have been identified as Narendra, Sandeep, and Anup.
The case comes amid nationwide outrage over a separate incident in Odisha’s Balasore, where a girl student died by suicide after accusing a lecturer of sexual harassment.
According to officials, the Bengaluru victim’s parents approached the Karnataka State Women’s Commission with the complaint, following which a case was registered at the Marathahalli Police Station. An investigation is currently underway on the Commission’s orders.
Another Shocking Case in Bengaluru: Man Held for Filming Woman in Toilet
In a separate incident on July 2, police arrested a 28-year-old man, Swapnil Nagesh Mali, for secretly recording a female colleague inside a toilet at a private company in Bengaluru’s Electronic City.
According to police, Mali, a technical analyst from Andhra Pradesh, was caught in the act when the reflection of his phone was spotted by the victim on the opposite door. He had allegedly climbed onto a commode in the adjacent stall to film her.
South East Division DCP Sarah Fathima told ANI, “We registered the case yesterday and have already arrested the accused. His mobile phone has been recovered and sent for forensic analysis.”
Shockingly, sources revealed that the company’s HR team allegedly tried to handle the matter internally by asking the accused to apologise, despite finding over 30 such videos of women on his phone.
After the victim’s husband learned of the incident, he lodged a police complaint, which led to the accused’s formal arrest. Mali is employed as a Senior Associate Consultant at the firm.
