Several flights connecting the UAE to Northern India and Pakistan were cancelled or delayed on Wednesday due to airspace restrictions following India’s military action against terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, has led to widespread disruptions across regional and international aviation routes, as per a report by Gulf News.
Dubai International Airport reported delays and cancellations from carriers including Emirates and flydubai. At Abu Dhabi, many delays and cancellations from Zayed International Airport were also reported.
Qatar Airways announced it has temporarily suspended flights to Pakistan. The airline stated, “Qatar Airways is monitoring the situation closely and continues to prioritise the safety of passengers and crew.”
According to the report by Gulf News, several global airlines are now avoiding Pakistani airspace. Air France, Lufthansa, British Airways, Swiss International Air Lines, and Emirates have adjusted flight routes to bypass the region. Lufthansa said it is “avoiding Pakistani airspace until further notice,” while Air France confirmed it has suspended overflights due to the "recent evolution of tensions between India and Pakistan."
Indian carriers IndiGo and SpiceJet have issued travel advisories for northern Indian airports including Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, and Bikaner. Passengers are being urged to check flight status before departure.
The aviation disruption follows India’s early morning launch of Operation Sindoor, targeting terror troops in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strike comes after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, in which 26 civilians, including one Nepali national, were killed by Pakistan-based militants.
India’s military confirmed it struck multiple locations identified as training and logistics hubs for terror activities, while avoiding Pakistani military assets. “We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable,” an Indian Army spokesperson stated.
Travelers across the region are advised to remain updated with airline communications as flight disruptions are expected to continue.
