Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni shared some light-hearted insights about Virat Kohli during a recent event held in Chennai. The 44-year-old stated that Kohli has a flair for singing, dancing, and mimicry, describing him as someone who loves entertaining others when he is in the mood.
Dhoni and Kohli shared a long and successful partnership on the field, representing India together across all formats. Their chemistry, especially while running between the wickets, was often highlighted as one of the most seamless in world cricket.
Kohli made his international debut under Dhoni's captaincy and eventually succeeded him as skipper across all formats. The duo played pivotal role in some of India's greatest cricketing triumphs, including the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup win at home and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy victory in England.
"He also sings well. He is a good singer. He is a good dancer. He is good in mimicry. If he is in the mood, he is very, very entertaining,” said Dhoni to the anchor, Bhavana Balakrishnan.

Despite sharing a celebrated bond off the field and a long-standing partnership in international cricket, Dhoni and Kohli have faced off in several intense encounters in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five titles, Kohli finally celebrated his maiden IPL triumph with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2025 season, under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar.
The 2025 IPL season marked the most recent on-field appearance for both legends. Dhoni endured a tough campaign, scoring 196 runs at an average below 25 and a strike rate of 135.17. Notably, CSK finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their history with only four wins in 14 games.
In contrast, Kohli had a stellar season, amassing 657 runs at an impressive average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71 in 15 matches. The 36-year-old was RCB’s top performer in the final, scoring 43 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) to help secure the franchise’s long-awaited first IPL title.
Kohli was expected to feature in India’s tour of Bangladesh, but the series was cancelled due to political tensions. As a result, it remains uncertain when the star batter will next be seen representing India in ODIs.
