Tokyo Games gold medallist and Paris Olympics silver medallist Neeraj Chopra scripted history at the Doha Diamond League by becoming the first Indian to breach the 90-metre mark. On his third attempt, he threw a distance of 90.23 metres.Sadly, while he entered the history books, it was not enough for first place. Germany's Julian Weber came first with a 91.06m throw.
History CreatedWhen Neeraj did achieve his personal best throw, he was in the lead but Julian was able to surpass him. Neeraj’s previous best effort was 89.94 metres in the 2022 Stockholm Diamond League. He will now look to push it even further in future events.

For many years, Neeraj has come close to the 90-metre mark and fallen short with several 88s and 89s. Now he has finally gone past it. Despite winning two Olympic medals, people still wondered when he would breach it. He finally has, but had to be content with second place.

Neeraj’s first throw was 88.44m and then the next one was a foul. His third and final throw saw history being made. Neeraj now joins an elite club which also contains Paris Games gold medallist Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan. This was not just a stat for him, it is now a personal milestone.
Neeraj’s EvolutionNeeraj has come a long way since shining for India in the South Asian Games back in 2016. Today he is one of the best javelin throwers in the world. The 2028 Olympics are there on his mind as fans would love to see him win another gold. Right now he is enjoying and doing what he does best and that is throw the javelin as far as he can.
