Why everyone online is obsessed with Labubu and what it actually is

The internet is abuzz with excitement over a quirky, toothy plush toy named Labubu. From X to Instagram, fans are showcasing their collections, unboxing videos, and even lining up overnight to get their hands on the latest editions. But what exactly is Labubu, and why has it become such a sensation?

It’s the brainchild of Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, who imagined a world full of quirky "monsters" back in 2015. 

Labubu, with its rabbit ears, cheeky smile, and wild little teeth, quickly became the star of the bunch. It's creepy, adorable, and somehow charming all at once.

Things really took off when Lung teamed up with Chinese toy giant Pop Mart in 2019. 

Thanks to their famous blind box system (where you don’t know what you're getting until you open it), Labubu turned from a small art project into a global obsession.

• Not just for kids: Labubu is designed as an art collectible. Adults love it just as much, if not more. It's like Pokémon cards all over again, but with teeth.
• Limited Editions: Rare versions exist and they’re worth a lot. Some collectors even resell them for crazy prices online!

Well, who knew a tiny monster could someday become an international pop culture phenomenon. Dream big, indeed!
