IPL 2025 returns? Ceasefire buzz reignites RCB trophy dreams

On May 10, the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan agreed to halt all firing and military action—on land, in the air, and at sea—effective from 5 PM, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Following the announcement, two topics quickly went viral: widespread Indian skepticism about Pakistan honoring the ceasefire, and excitement over the potential return of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which had been suspended for a week.

Is IPL 2025 back?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad to host the remaining 16 matches of IPL 2025, including the Playoffs, pending government approval to resume the tournament later this May, ESPNcricinfo reports.

If the plan goes ahead, Eden Gardens—originally set to host Qualifier 2 and the Final—may be dropped. Franchise officials were informally informed, but if the government doesn't clear a May restart, the season could be delayed. 

A key concern also remains the return of overseas players, many of whom have already left India. There's no assurance all will return if IPL 2025 resumes this month. 

RCB fans dare to dream again

Amid all this, fans remain hopeful that IPL 2025 will resume in India itself. Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to start dreaming about Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifting their maiden title. The team currently sits in second place after 11 games, with 8 wins, 3 losses, and 16 points.

About the IPL 2025

The tournament was suspended for a week with immediate effect due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Just under a quarter of the IPL—16 matches, including the four Playoff fixtures—remains on hold.

Meanwhile, Team India is set to travel to England for a five-match Test series starting June 20, with the Pataudi Trophy running until August 4. Following that, India is scheduled to tour Bangladesh beginning August 17. 

The Asia Cup is tentatively slated for September, after which India will head to Australia from October to late December. The year will end with a home multi-format series against South Africa.
