Hardik Pandya — the man who turned boos into cheers — made history by becoming the first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) captain to claim a 5-wicket haul. In the clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper led from the front, grabbing his maiden IPL 5-fer in spectacular fashion.

His wickets included Aiden Markram (53 off 38), Nicholas Pooran (12 off 6), Rishabh Pant (2 off 6), David Miller (27 off 14), and Akash Deep (0 off 1), all at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

He now has 8 wickets to his name and sits 2nd on the list of most wicket takers in IPL 2025. As Pandya recorded his best-ever T20 bowling figures, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the feat.

One said, "Class from Hardik Pandya… his first IPL fifer."

Another wrote, "First ever 5-fer for Hardik Pandya in IPL. His best spell for MI. Redemption is real!!"

One commented, "Hardik Pandya, what a bowling!"

Another added, "Hardik Pandya becomes the first captain to register a 5-wicket haul in IPL history."

One fan pointed out, "Hardik Pandya doing what he does best — taking wickets with short balls! Took 5 today, just like he did in 2016 vs Bangladesh. Some things never change."

About LSG vs MI

LSG have posted an impressive total of 203 after being put in to bat first. The hosts showed clear intent, with Mitchell Marsh surviving an early non-review in the first over and making MI pay. He blazed through the powerplay, scoring 60 runs and helping set up a 76-run opening stand.

Despite a brief stumble with the quick dismissals of Marsh, Pooran, and Pant, Aiden Markram and Ayush Badoni (30 off 19) rebuilt the innings with a rapid 50+ partnership. David Miller then provided the finishing touches with a strong finish.
