The central government is preparing to give relief in toll tax soon. The Ministry of Road Transport has prepared two new proposals, under which there will be no toll on the roads.
New Delhi: If you often travel by national highway or expressway, then this news is for you. The central government is now preparing to give relief in toll tax. The Ministry of Road Transport has prepared two new proposals, which can benefit millions of passengers.
What are these two proposals?
Now there will be no toll tax on narrow and two and a half lane roads, that is, if you are traveling on a national highway that has two lanes or two and a half lanes, then there will be no need to pay toll there.
Unlimited travel pass for ₹ 3000 annually for car owners, that is, if you often travel on the highway by car, then by paying only 3000 rupees you can travel as much as you want throughout the year without paying toll every time.
How far has this proposal reached?
The ministry has approved both the proposals and now it has been sent to the Finance Ministry. Because this will definitely reduce the government's income from toll, so the final decision will come from there.
How much loss will the government incur?
There are very few such toll plazas, only around 50.
The toll collected on most of the roads is collected by private companies, especially on four-lane and larger roads.
The government earns ₹61,000 crore from the total toll, out of which only 20-21% comes from common car owners. The rest of the money comes from trucks, buses, and heavy vehicles.
What does Gadkari ji have to say?
Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari himself has said many times that the government is considering giving relief to passengers from toll tax. He has said that if the toll is reduced, he has no objection.
If everything goes well, then soon the common man can get a big relief in toll tax. Just imagine, by paying ₹3000 you can travel on the highway without stopping for a whole year.
