New Delhi: In a major relief for lakhs of rural families, the central government has announced new eligibility criteria for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G). This change will enable more citizens to avail benefits under the housing scheme.
Earlier, applicants had to meet 13 strict eligibility conditions, but now this number has been reduced to 10. The revision aims to make the scheme more inclusive and accessible for economically weaker sections.
🏠 What Has Changed in PMAY-G Rules?The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) provides financial aid for building homes to eligible rural households. Until now, the process required families to satisfy 13 parameters. However, following the recent update:

The number of eligibility criteria has been reduced from 13 to 10.

The monthly income cap for eligibility has been raised from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000.

Ownership of a two-wheeler, gas stove, or fishing boat no longer makes you ineligible.
This means that more rural households—including those with small assets—can now apply for assistance under the scheme.
💰 How Much Assistance is Provided?-
₹1.30 lakh for beneficiaries in hilly regions

₹1.20 lakh for those in plain areas
📅 Important Deadline: Households that haven’t undergone the required survey yet must do so by May 15, 2025. (Previously, the last date was April 30.)
✅ 3 Major Rules Removed from PMAY Eligibility:Having a scooter, bike, or boat is no longer a disqualification.
Using a gas stove is not a barrier to eligibility.
Lack of electricity connection is no longer a mandatory condition.
The household is headed by a woman.
No adult member between 16–59 years is present.
No literate adult above the age of 25 years.
Family has at least one disabled member.
Landless families depending solely on casual labor.
Homeless, or residing in a single-room dwelling.
Belong to SC/ST or minority communities.
No toilet facility at home.
Lack of access to education or employment.
Other socio-economic hardships as defined by the government.
